Bas Armagnacs beyond 40 years of age are of course unclassifiable - they are well rounded  and each have their distinctive character, impossible, therefore, to restrict to a particular 'family' The finest Armagnac is produced from four grape varieties: 'Baco', 'Folle Blanche', 'Ugni Blanc' and Colombard. The composition of the respective Francis Darroze vintages are abbreviated beneath the relevant vintage to : Baco % - FB % - UB % - Col %, reflecting the evolution of selective blending as decreed by the governing body.

DARROZE RESERVE 10 YEAR
A symphony of Armagnacs representing a unique assemblage from amongst the finest terroirs aged 10 to 13 years. A fruity Eau de Vie with hints of fig, quince and dried apricot laced with the cloves and vanilla, gratifying in the palette for an Armagnac of this age.

Golden hues with chestnut reflections. Very expressive nose, smoky, with hints of the forest floor and roasted coffee beans,tobacco, acacia and warm toast. Lovely aromatic complexity. A notable assault in the mouth with supple tannins. The aromatic complexity is reflected in the nose. An Armagnac which lingers in the mouth

1994 Domaine de Salie
The colour of golden, freshly harvested straw. Very fine nose with aromas of Verbena and lime blossom accompanied by fruity overtones of plum, quince and ripe fig. Frank assault on the mouth - the 'eau de vie' is still young although abundant in nuance and temperament.

DOMAINE DE RIESTON - Perquie
The nose still a little elusive and requires a few minutes to express itself. Fruity aromas of quince, orange peel and plums reveal themselves – very rich in the palette and an overwhelming softness accompanied by explosive aromas. Great character and expression.

DOMAINE DE COQUILLON - Frêche
Despite its youth the nose of this Armagnac has already evolved. Aromas of honey, of wax, gingerbreadand toast dominate. For the palette the tannins are still youthful. An Armagnac in sharp contrast with the nose…… agreeable  aromatic complexities.

Attractive light chestnut colour and gilded reflections with the classical nose for an Armagnac of this age: Plum, dried apricot, honey and gingerbread. In the palette the sensation is soft, followed by an explosion of aromas reminiscent of the fruity nose……belle longeur….

DOMAINE DE BERTRUC – Frêche
A lovely, golden 'robe' with amber tints. Fine, pedrigreed nose marked by dried fruits (amandes, plum, figs) with aromas of lightly toasted tobacco and wheat. Supple sensation in the palette with smooth, elegant tannins.
Aromas of dried fruit: apricot, orange peel and figs. Superb!

Domaine de Jouanchicot - Mauléon d'Armagnac
A low intensity golden colour with a fine and delicate nose; the aromas of dried fruit, including apricot and almonds, combined with vanilla and liquorice spices are superb. On the palette, the tannins are silky smooth and very fruity to the nose of orange peel, prune and quince.

A lovely brilliant golden colour with a fine and delicate nose. Aromas of quince and peach accompanied by vanilla and honey; fruit is also dominant in the mouth, with quince and orange peel - lingering aftertaste.

A superb colour - orange flame with reflections of gold. Fine nose enhanced by the aroma of honey, plum, orange peel, gingerbread and lime blossom. Silky tannins in the mouth. A remarkable balance between achohol, aroma and tannin. Lovery length.

DOMAINE DE JOUANCHICOT – Mauléon d'Armagnac
A golden hue with tawny reflections. Complex nose and fruity aroma, including orange peel, peach, plum and more developed overetones of chocolate, liquorice and gingerbread. In the mouth the aroma of ageing is dominant: chocolate, Madeira, walnut, Virginia tobacco and new leather.

Domaine de Bertruc – Frêche

Medium intensity golden colour with flashes of chestnut; a fine and subtle nose, aromas of zesty orange combined with dried apricot accompanied by fine spices. Silky, rounded tannins on the palette, dominated by aromas of fig, prune and apricot – superb!

Domaine de Salie – Frêche
The colour harvested wheat with a fruity nose, lightly wooded, unveiling the aromas of orange peel, peach and mango; the second nose is spicier, cloves and vanilla. The 'attack' on the palette is subtle followed by an explosion of aromas including fig, almond, quince and dried mandarin – wonderful length.

DOMAINE AU MARTIN – Hontax
An immediate, very spicy 'nez' (cloves, white pepper). Needs to breathe; thereafter much more finesse in terms of prune, dried fig, tobacco and leather. Exuberant 'en bouche' with, again, the spices pepper and clove with overones of toast and tobacco.

Domaine de Jouatmou - Frêche
Intense chestnut colour and a nose of rich woodiness with liquorice, acacia and leather; left to breathe, the snifter will reveal an aroma of prunes. An Armagnac that is very dense and limpid on the palette with aromas of cocao and liquorice – very long in the palette.

A pleasing gilded hue shot with gold. An initially reluctant nose which, after airing, reveals the aroma of fruit soaked in alchohol (prune, but more rarely, raspberry). Considering the vintage, velvety and unctuous in the mouth. Flavours of ripened fruit, liquorice and chocolate. Remarkable for the diversity of aromas.

Lovely golden 'robe' with tawny reflects with a fine and fresh 'nez'. Subtle, woody aromas (acacia, pepper and liquorice) accompanied by rancio and truffles. 'En bouche' the tannins are silky and supple. Discover these same aromas in the 'nez'. An extended 'fin de bouche', very rancio (Madeira and walnuts).

A lovely golden colour with chestnut reflections. Very complex nose. Aromas of fig and prune accompanied by gingerbread, leather and clove. The palette snenses the rich, silky tannins; the balance between these latter, aroma and alchohol is extraordinary – a Grand Bas Armagnac!

The colour of chestnut laced with gold. The 'nez' is distinctive to the property: rich, frank and severe. Wodland aromas dominate; ripe liquorice, leather, tobacco, cocoa. 'En Bouche' the sensation is rich, the tannins, of very good quality, omnipresent.One senses aromas closely resembling those of the 'nez'. Extended, aromatic length.

An intense chestnut colour. After airing the nose is marked by a woodiness of great quality. Hints of roasted coffe been, cocoa and chocolate are dominant blended with the aroma of fruit and liquorice. An Armagnac rich in the mouth, perfectly balanced between aroma, tannins and alcohol.

A golden colour with chestnut reflections. Complex nose; of a fresh wax seal, gingerbread, cinnamon but also the aroma of dried fruits and, towards the end, overtones of walnut and Madeira. Superb! The 'robe' is of a light meranti colour with golden reflections. A complex 'nez', of dried fruit and almonds, ripe fruits and more evokotive aromas of woodland floor and leather – the sensation is very supple and the tannins silky-smooth. The aromas and similar to the 'nez'.

Very complex nose comprising the fruits quince, apricot and plums. Spices, vanilla and cinnamon, and the mature, evolved aroma of walnut, cocoa and leather. 'En bouche' the vintage aromas are dominant, walnuts and rich chocolate amongst them. Supple, rounded tannins and a very long 'bouche'.

A fine, intense, tawny orange colour. A most expressive nose marked by dried fruit and vanilla. A second nose, rich in spice, the asserts itself. The assault on the mouth is quite supple (dried fruits and vanilla) then evolves completely - the alcohol comprehensively expresses the woodland aromas and hints liquorice. Excellent length.

DOMAINE DE POUNON- Labastide d'Armagnac
An amber colour with golden reflections. The nose is notable for its fine overtones of wax, cinnamon and tobacco; the second nose matures to reveal walnut, almond and Madeira. In the mouth the equilibrium between tannins, alcohol and aroma is perfect. A resurgence of aromas manifest themselves yet again. Long in the mouth.
